My name is Urška and I’m the blogger behind the Slovenian Girl Abroad blog. As the name of my blog suggests, I am girl who left her home country Slovenia to search new experiences abroad. After living in London and Paris, I’m currently enjoying the expat life in Lucerne, Switzerland. In my blog I’m documenting and sharing my personal travel experiences as well as providing the tips about places I’ve already visited.

  1. What made you decide to start a blog?
Sardinia, Italy.
Sardinia, Italy.

Since I moved to Switzerland I’m mainly communicating in German. I’ve lost a bit of a contact with English. I started to notice my written English is getting worse and worse and I desperately needed to continue practicing writing. Blog seemed to be a great tool to do this and that’s the reason why Slovenian Girl Abroad came to life.

  1. What have your favourite experiences been away from home/the place where you were born?

I was blessed with so many amazing experiences it’s hard to pick just one or two. Exploring the ancient ruins of the Crete Island, meeting snow monkeys in Japan, having lunch with a view to Eiffel Tower, seeing toucans in their natural habitat in Brazil, skiing with the amazing views to Matterhorn, visiting some of the best museums in the world, hiking the four lakes trail from Melchsee-Frutt to Engelberg, having a pint of cider in London pub with my friends, learning about the ancient nuraghe civilization in Sardinia and many many more.

  1. When you write your blog, who are you writing for?
Mt. Titlis above Engelberg, Switzerland.

It depends, I mostly write for myself, to document my experiences and preserve my memories. But at the same time, I try to write each post in a way that is also interesting for wider audiences who might search for a travel inspiration or are just collecting the information about the certain destinations.

  1. What advice would you give for anyone wanting to start their own travel blog?

Just be yourself and write about the things you’re passionate about.

  1. What do you enjoy writing about most on your blog?

About my trips and travels, what else? J

  1. What’s the hardest thing about running a blog?

The hardest thing for me is to keep the motivation for writing and maintaining the quality and consistence of posts.

  1. Please recommend three blog posts you’d like readers of this to read!
Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland.

I’ve recently celebrated one year of blogging and for that occasion I’ve collected my favourite posts from previous year in the post you can find on that link:
