Today’s Epic Journeys takes me back a number of years now and over to West Africa, starting in the south of Benin in it’s largest city, Cotonou, and finishes in the capital of Niger, Niamey, late on the second day. A journey of just over 1000 kilometres in total, one that Google claims can be done in 16 hours. And perhaps it can, but there is a border crossing and when you do it by public transport you need to change vehicles multiple times, there’s waiting times and a night thrown in there, it ends up being a journey that I can say is truly ‘Epic’.
Howdy all. I wanted to pull it back a notch after flooding your Thursdays with country over views and try and get back to individual places for a while. I had planned a couple of weeks back now to cover the Saharan country of Niger in my ‘I went to…. So you don’t have to’ …
West Africa is not the first region people think of travelling to, especially from the west. The capital cities are often where the most money may be – in any country, not just in Africa – and they often can shine a little light into the past as well. Some cities show evidence of an …
Yes, back to West Africa again. Transport in West Africa is possibly THE reason to go if you’re seriously into adventure. I say this because every journey in West Africa is a major adventure. From tro-tros to share-taxis to buses and even the occasional train, West Africa is not for the feint-hearted who like smooth …
Well. Here it is - my last post before I jet off to South America on Sunday morning. I'm back with another photographic journey (as far as my camera skills will let me) to the land-locked West African country of Niger. A mostly desert country, Niger is probably the most remote country I've ever visited. …
Sunday Spotlight has been a great little segment that I've enjoyed writing very much! Here are some of my favourites I've written about in the last couple of years! 5. Agadez Agadez is a desert city in the African country of Niger. It's a world away from everything, and perhaps the most remote place I …
Howdy folks as another week kicks off. With my series of Saturday posts on West Africa, I thought now would be a good time to show you my short (5 and a half minutes) video I compiled of my time in West Africa. It's a combination of photos and short films I shot with the …
Continuing on with my flashback to 2006, we start this week in a country many people don't know much about - Niger, a giant, desert-like country north of Nigeria. Tuesday, February 07, 2006 A way away Well a post has disappeared.... It wouldn't save a few days ago and now it's gone.... I noticed In …

When I went to India, I was a very green traveller. It was my first solo trip, the first time I had travelled alone. When I went to West Africa in 2006, I couldn’t claim the same. I had been to India three times, I had visited Bangladesh twice and been through Pakistan and Iran …
