The Amazing Race. The TV show. Do you know it? Perhaps in some ways it’s the ultimate travel reality TV Show. For starters, I can’t think of many others except we do have one here in Australia called ‘Travel Guides’ or something where you just follow four groups of people travelling to various locations. But The Amazing Race is the only one I know of that sets challenges and has a winner and all that jazz.
So folks. Yes, I’m daring to do it. I am daring to actually think about possibly planning to do some thing maybe if we’re all very lucky in 2021. What destinations? Where will I go? Where will I be able to go?

Twas this day in 2016, and my wife and I were leaving Buenos Aires in what was to be a very long day!
Many years ago now, Saddam Hussein was still in power in Iraq, and in the north of the country, in Kurdistan, he built himself a palace at the top of a mountain. These days, the few tourists that do dare to tip their toes in the destination that is Iraq often end up visiting this palace, now a shell of the building it once was.
In 2007 100 million people voted to decree which were the new ‘Seven Wonders of the World’, and they decided on – the Pyramids (Egypt), Petra (Jordan), the Colosseum (Italy), The Taj Mahal (India), The Great Wall of China (not sure which country), The Statue of Christ the Redeemer (Brazil) and Chichen Itza (Mexico). Which ones have I visited?

The smallish country of Benin is perhaps not one that everyone has heard of before. This destination in West Africa sits wedged between the much bigger Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, and the even smaller Togo (I mean Togo is even smaller than Benin). Come see what it looks like!

Today the story of my epic journey from the town of Uyuni in Bolivia, the gateway to Salar de Uyuni, to the border town of La Quiaca, in Argentina, passing through such not-particularly-known towns as Atocha, Tupiza and Villazon (the border town on the Bolivian side). Crazy drivers and roads that appeared to be rivers made this quite the adventure!
