Today on Andy Roams I am taking to the rails with you in tow (I hope!) because a serious game changer for travel in Laos and from China to South East Asia arrived a few years ago and earlier this year I finally got to travel on it! ‘It’ – if you hadn’t worked it out – is the Bullet Train, the ‘Billion Dollar’ train that runs from Kunming in China’s southern province of Yunnan, down through Laos through the hills and mountains to the Laotian capital on the Mekong River, just opposite Thailand, Vientiane.
Through parts of the country where land transport was incredibly slow and torturous, there is now a super fast rail connection between Vientiane and Luang Prabang (less than two hours of this route) that connects to China and is apparently making a big difference in trade between the two countries.
Come with me as I offer a look at the on board experience and the journey through the day. I’ll take a look at economy and a brief look at the Business Class, see if there’s anything worth eating in the ‘restaurant car’, and of course talk you through the border formalities. This is one hell of a train adventure, so ALL ABOARD!
Thanks for popping by! May the Journey Never End!
