In May, I attended Kyoto's Aoi Matsuri Festival, one of Japan's largest annual festivals, celebrated on May 15th. This event, with origins over 1000 years old, featured vibrant parades of participants in traditional Heian Period costumes, despite the sweltering heat. It was an unforgettable cultural experience.
