Song of the Trip!

Howdy all! Hope you are well. Today’s post is a musical one for you! Whatever your destination, it’s nice to have some songs with you. But today I am reminiscing about the songs that I heard frequently on past trips. So much so that they became the ‘Song of the Trip’, except that really there would be a couple of songs. For some reason I can’t recall hearing a certain song in 2011. Other smaller trips weren’t long enough to have a song stick in my mind so much. But here are the ones that did for you!

1999 – Strong Enough (Cher) and Mambo Number 5 (Lou Bega)

These two songs were everywhere in 1999. I first heard ‘Strong Enough’ when in Russia. I think it was released elsewhere earlier, but boy did it play a lot in Russia and Europe in 1999. And Mambo Number 5 I remember hearing all the time too, especially in Scandinavia.

2004 – Toxic (Britney Spears) & Shut Up (Black Eyed Peas)

These songs stuck with me during 2004, again in Europe. I couldn’t believe how much they LOVED Britney Spears, especially in Serbia of all places (where they were poo-pooing Eurovision). It grew on me, now I love the song. ‘Shut Up’ was a cool song too, I remember hearing it ad nauseum pumping out near the beaches of Montenegro!

2006 – Smooth (Santana)

So okay, this is really a ‘song of the trip’ per se, but I did rock it at karaoke in Singapore. Ever since this is my go to karaoke song.

2019 – Dance Monkey (Tones and I)

To think this is an Australian Artist. It was Belarus in 2019 (I kid ye NOT) that I first heard this song. Over and over again! And it kinda grew on me to be honest!

So I probably have forgotten some songs. But such is life! How about you? Have you taken a long trip and found the same songs played everywhere you went? What year and what song? Please do comment! Thanks and take care – May the Journey Never End!

  1. Surely some of them have stayed on my playlists since then, like:
    Miley Cyrus – Malibu
Charlie Puth – We Don’t Talk Anymore
    Kenny Chesney – Get Along
and Slim Dusty during my first trip in Australia

  2. Love is gone by David Guetta trip to Paris 2007,and the Greek winner of Eurosong back in 2006 when I was in Greece, and a couple of others that I remember..
