Foto Friday – Independence Park, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

Hi all. I wanted to share this photo with you today from the Turkmen capital, Ashgabat. Independence Park is a large park filled with paths, lights, fountains and statues. From this angle though you see a bit of the city in the distance, a few apartment buildings, everything looks almost perfect in its way. And then in background you see the dust hovering over the mountains which divide Turkmenistan from Iran. You see a few trees in the foreground too – there was and still is a massive tree planting initiative taken a few year back now which still continues and around and in Ashgabat there have been millions of trees planted. I was told that as a result of this, rainfall had increased. Ashgabat remains a city that has to be seen to be believed!

Thanks for stopping by – May the Journey Never End!
