Joya de Ceren and Tazumal – Through My Lens

Howdy all. Today’s photographic post sees me sharing photos from two of El Salvador’s main historic sites, Joya de Ceren and Tazumal. I visited both in a single day whilst staying in Santa Ana.

Joya de Ceren is an old settlement/village of around 200 people that 1400 years ago was covered in ash following a volcanic eruption. Known as the ‘Pompei of Central America’, it sits under giant rooves and surrounded by chicken wire to keep out the birds. There’s a small museum there too.

Tazumal is a collection of ancient structures to the west of Santa Ana. It’s not so clear exactly when the main pyramid was built but it’s put between 100AD and 800AD. It was built in stages, the earliest parts from around 100AD.

Thanks for popping by today! May the Journey Never End!
