G’day all, hope this post finds you well. Today I am starting to delve into my reviews for the places I stayed in my recent trip (you know, the one called ‘Dhaka to Dakar’). I’ve been doing a lot of video reviews for some of the places I stayed, so I think I probably won’t do many written reviews (if any) for those ones but there are still plenty that I didn’t video review so I will start at least with those. In fact I didn’t do a video review for the three places I stayed in India, so let’s get into it!
The Park Suties in Kolkata is well located on Park Street which is a great little part of Kolkata where there are loads of places to eat and shop and reasonably close to other things – I did a lot of walking in Kolkata and also used the Metro which is kinda handy and there is a station five minutes or less from Park Suites.

The address is listed as on Stephen Court, Park Street which was a little confusing, and the place was hard to find. I came straight from the airport and the taxi drove up and down and around the corner, but eventually I spotted a small sign saying ‘Park Suites’ and I was dropped off there. There was a small little court behind a gate for access to a number of buildings including the building the Park Suites were in.
Up a rickety lift I went to the fourth floor – so Park Suites are basically a group of rooms rather than a hotel or a guesthouse – and into the reception area. The Park Suites are all modern and clean, and surprisingly spacious. I will be totally honest – I THINK this is the best room I have ever had in India. It’s really roomy, with a huge King Sized bed, a desk which was a pretty good work station under a digital TV that gets a good range of channels.

The bathroom was good too, with a good shower with decent hot water, and proper drainage separated from the rest of the bathroom which is often an issue I’ve found in bathrooms when staying in Indian Hotels.
Outside the windows is Park Street, and in the evening it can be pretty busy so there is a bit of traffic noise which is probably the only downside to the room. It’s a little dark I guess but that wasn’t really an issue. The manager is there I think all night and helps patrons out where he (or possibly she) can.
The food on offer is great – they don’t have their own kitchen but they give you a bunch of menus to close by restaurants and you order from that and they will bring it to your room, and that included the breakfast that was included in the price. And I had some lamb on my first night and it was really delicious and full of flavour – I was super impressed. Also I should mention – very fast WiFi which is always a big plus.
The coast was I think $66 Australian Dollars, which on today’s exchange rate is around $44USD. So it’s firmly in the mid-range category when it comes to India. Having said that it’s definitely excellent value for money. I was just super happy here and there’s no doubt if I return to Kolkata I would have Park Suites as my first preference of places to stay!
