Sri Lanka has become a bit of a theme in the last couple of weeks. Here in Kandy, just by my guesthouse, people walk home after shopping along the railway. Railways are the life and soul of the sub-continent. You wouldn’t see this in Australia!

Wow! Similar to Thailand!
thanks Wanee!
They really are the life and soul. Such a great destination for rail lovers! You do get to see a cross-section of society riding the rails (or walking the tracks as this photo shows) too.
I’ve seen similar in Africa too. I just love the way the rail network is woven into the lives of the people. thanks for reading!
With a real train running through? Wow, amazing…so interesting to see…:)
I think the trains move really slowly in build up areas to avoid any chance of squashing anyone. People know when there’s a train coming. ANd yes, I did see a number of trains pass that section of the track, it was literally right behind our guesthouse. Boy, the ones in the middle of the night didnt half wake you up!
Wow, how do people there sleep with all the noise>!! Haha…:)
That picture is SO subcontinental!! I don’t think you can truly appreciate how big a deal trains are in South Asia unless you’ve been there! Great post 🙂
