Anyone who follows my travels and indeed adventures knows that I rather enjoy visiting theme parks. So when I found out there was a half-inside and half-outside theme park in Seoul, called Lotte World or Lotte World Adventure or Lotte Adventure World (saw all three iterations) of course I HAD to go.

I guess considering South Korea’s closeness to the US and love for cute things – not quite as much as Japan but it’s definitely a thing in Korea – it’s surprising that Disney hasn’t moved in at all. Instead we have ‘Lotte World’. What is Lotte? Well a search online results in the answer ‘Lotte is a South Korean multinational conglomerate corporation that operates in many industries, including food, retail, tourism, construction, and finance.’ And I thought they basically just built and ran malls. Suffice to say that when you are that big, why not have a theme park?
One thing that seemed obvious to me is, although it’s not Disney, it’s Disney inspired. Loads of different cartoon characters dotted about the place, including one called ‘Lotty’, possibly no relation. Who knows? I believe actually they have another park in Busan as well, so they’re doing okay.
Ticket price was pretty reasonable – in fact I just saw if you book online through Klook they are pricing it just over $22USD instead of the standard $42USD. Which is still a great price of a pretty good sized theme park with loads of rides and novelties. It’s more expensive at the gate. In the end the lines for some rides, especially Atlantis on Magic Island, an island connected to the main building which is the outside part of the park. So I went and got a ‘Magic Pass’ – literally had to go from the furthest end of the park to the entrance and back, but still saved me two hours. That was only around $40USD and proved pretty awesome, I got to use it on FIVE rides, pay a little more and it’s good for SEVEN.

So, let’s talk about some of the rides/attractions:
Atlantis
This is probably the best ride at the park, it was my favourite. It’s a fast and roller coaster, takes you upside down I think, The Gyro Swing, one of three ‘Gyro’ rides, swings just over/by you as Atlantis takes you up a hill. It’s quite a thrill.
Battlegrounds World Agent
This was a fun concept. You go from room to room and use a sort of laser gun to fire at targets that appear in front of you. Thought it was well done if not my favourite of the day.
Balloon Ride

This was perhaps the most novel of the rides. Inside at the very top of the building/space, these ‘balloons’ attached to cables to the roof. You are super high here and it’s a great spot to get a view of all of indoor Lotte World. There was a show going on – yes there are stages and shows at Lotte World too, and parades. Takes a good 15 – 20 minutes to circumnavigate the arena. Worth doing for the fact you get perspective too.
French Revolution
A decent indoor roller coaster with loops and speed. It bashes you around a bit from side to side too. My kind of ride glad I hadn’t eaten anything before I got on it.
The Flume
Each theme park needs a water raft/canoe style ride. And this is the Lotte World one. It’s rather fun, but a long wait to get on it, over 30 minutes WITH the Magic Pass. It’s not got a lot of thrills and spills, but it does build up to a good drop at the end like all good water rides.
Comet Express

This one was on the island but was a totally indoor ride. It reminded me of Space Mountain at Tokyo Disney, there was more spinning though and I was able to use my GoPro on it too which was great!
Pharoah’s Fury
Pharaoh’s Fury was the last ride I did on the day. It tries to invoke a bit of Indianna Jones I am guessing and you are in sort jeep on a track and you go through caves and tombs and there are a few jolts but no big thrills in terms of movement. A bit of a ghost train I guess in some ways. Perhaps the coolest part is when you leave the tombs for a brief while and find yourself looking down at the main indoor space. Not as high quite as the balloons, but pretty cool.

There are loads and loads more rides. These were the ones I selected as ones I wanted to take. I was there on a Saturday, and so it was busy and when the heavy rain hit, everyone had to more into the indoor part, so it got super packed. There’s plenty of typical fast food places for you’re eating needs. However everywhere I went basically told me I shouldn’t eat there because of my peanut allergy, which was frustrating but then again – better safe than sorry. Not a huge amount of English spoken, I had on my phone ‘If I eat peanuts I will die’ or similar translated to Korean, and perhaps that put everyone off I don’t know if there WAS peanuts in the sauce, burgers or food or if there was a chance of a ‘trace’.
Anyways. Lotte World. I enjoyed it. Not my favourite of all time, but definitely if you like theme parks in general and you’re in Seoul, you should definitely go.
Thanks for popping by today! Take care wherever you are in the world and… May the Journey Never End!
I’m glad that normally I don’t have enough time to visit theme parks in foreign countries. In France, however, I have visited several interesting ones that are something other than revamped funfairs.
