Tuneful Tuesdays: Remembering Eurovision 2004

Howdy all! Today I thought I would do a music-themed post for you. Eurovision 2024 from Sweden is THIS WEEK and I usually do a Eurovision-themed post or three each year because, well it’s Eurovision! It’s the 20th anniversary of the 2004 contest, the closest I ever got to attending as I was in Istanbul at the time where it was held and I watched on the big screen in Taksim Square. So here are my favourites from 2004! Enjoy!

‘Stronger Every Minute’ – Lisa Andreas, Cyprus

This song sung by teenager Lisa Andreas is a wonderful little power ballad. It came in equal fifth.

‘Takes 2 to Tango’ – Jari Sillanpaa, Finland

I really dug this song. Many clearly didn’t, it didn’t progress past the semi-final.

‘Without You’ – Re-Union, The Netherlands

This lovely little ballad has some nice harmonies and was one of the better songs of the year without a doubt, making it to the final but coming in 20th overall.

‘In the Disco’ – Deen, Bosnia and Herzegovina

This one has a great beat although is a bit ‘out there’ at the same time. Made it to 9th.

‘Life’ Tose Proeski, FYR Macedonia (North Macedonia)

This unique song is written in 7/8 time I think, it’s got a 4-3 beat and I think was the first ever entry from the FYR of Macedonian, now known as North Macedonia. Anyways, it’s one of my favourites, and came 14th.

‘Wild Dances’ – Ruslana, Ukraine

Ukraine’s first every Eurovision winner was ‘Wild Dances’ by Ruslana, and was a worthy winner this year. Enjoy!

Thanks for joining me today! Take care wherever you are in the world – May the Journey Never End!
