Accommodation Report: Clarion Hotel at Jeddah Airport

Howdy all. Today’s review sees me talk about a place I only stayed one night, close to the King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah. I had an early morning flight and I didn’t want to have to negotiate my way to the airport at 5am in the morning to catch my onward flight to Cairo, so I booked this place for the night in question, it was a hotel with a shuttle to the airport as required, which suited me perfectly.

So confession – I took no photos nor footage at the hotel. When you spend months travelling trying to document your every move, sometimes you, frankly, can just not be bothered any more. And that’s about where I was when I stayed here. I can’t really give you a price to be exact either because this hotel I used my ‘free night’ on hotels.com. When you have stayed 10 nights on this website they give you a night free at equal or lesser value of the average of the ten nights you stayed. I think it was about $165AUD ($100USD), I had an average of about $100AUD so I needed to pay just over $50AUD. It’s a pretty good deal to be fair.

I took an Uber from downtown Jeddah to the hotel. It took a bit of time, over 30 minutes, but I got there. The reception area is a bit small but there is an okay lobby next to a restaurant. This was both the most expensive place I stayed in Saudi Arabia and also the best. The check in was nice and easy and I was soon on my way in the lift up to my room.

In the other two places I had stayed in Saudi Arabia I had noticed the rooms to be very musty, especially in Jeddah where the weather is very humid. The hotels looked a little out of time, although I had been perfectly happy with them both. But this was up a level, this compared much better to four star hotels internationally.

The room was a decent size, there was a great space for using my computer (desk area), twin beds, and the air conditioning was consistent and predictable. The WiFi was a plus, easily the fastest I had experienced in Saudi Arabia which was a mercy as I was behind in my uploading due to the lack of speed at the Dyar Al Hamra, where I had been staying in Jeddah the previous five or six nights. Mind you – internet is controlled and monitored by the government in Saudi Arabia and sites are blocked, which automatically slows down the speed regardless on the quality of the individual connection.

I ordered dinner from room service, something I found myself doing a lot on this trip. I would be spending evenings editing and uploading and so sadly went out for dinner less often. I ordered a burger here, and it was pretty decent. Good shower although a rain shower is, as you may no, not my favourite. It was very clean, felt modern and not dated or faded. What more could I ask for really?

Thanks for popping by! May the Journey Never End!

  1. A hotel with typical international standards, not very distinctive but perfectly functional. I like the large desk, I also spend so much time on my laptop at the end of the day that doing so comfortably is appreciated.
