Hi all today I’m sharing some videos I took taking the train in Myanmar. Surprisingly perhaps it’s an amazing place to travel by train. Not ultra comfortable I must say, not in the least actually, but a real adventure. And one that doesn’t move at hyper-fast speeds. Highlights include the beautiful scenery and people, and in particular the Gokteik Viaduct, an incredible, old metal bridge up in the hill country past Pyin Oo Lwin. So here they are!
From Pyin Oo Lwin to Kyaukme
This one features the viaduct I mentioned earlier which was awesome, creaked liked crazy and is the reason a lot of tourists took the train. Amazing ride!
Thazi to Shwenyaung
This was the longest and most epic of all taking I think around 10 hours. Shwenyaung is the closest station to Inle Lake, and to get there from Thazi the train goes up and then down some mountains. To do this it does a number of switchbacks which are really cool!
Yangon Circular Railway
As the name suggests, this one does a loop around Yangon, the country’s biggest city. It takes a couple of hours (from memory) and is a unique experience.
All in all the trains in Myanmar are amazing and brilliant, if uncomfortable, experiences. Thanks for popping by! May the Journey Never End!
Thinking about bullet trains, it’s like a two-speed world.
very much so!
Hope to do this one day if things settle down in Myanmar.
It’s fantastic! Just need to get past the coup and the pandemic! Thanks for visiting my little blog!
