G’day all. Another chance on Tuesday to share some music that I really like. I still travel with my ipod, which still lives despite going through the wash at least twice, and today I want to share some music from Peter, Paul and Mary, a folk trio who began back in the early 1960s. I have a bunch of their songs on my ipod (although not as many as I thought) and I recently discovered that there are a bunch of live performances on YouTube from them.

I mean, it shouldn’t have really been a surprise. My parents had an LP I used to listen to over and over again – a two record set of ‘Peter, Paul and Mary – In Concert’ which is where I discovered them probably from the age of 4 or earlier. I LOVED records growing up. I still do. They did write some of their own songs, but they also were huge fans of other artists and would take songs from people like Bob Dylan and add their incredible harmonies. Here are three of my favourites.
1/ Leaving on a Jet Place
Now the original is by John Denver, but I think theirs is the BEST version there is of the song. It really suits Mary Travers’ voice. I adore this.
2/ Three Ravens
Amazing, haunting and sad number.
3/ Blowin’ in the Wind
This version of the Dylan classic brings me almost to tears every time I hear it. Especially in the 2024 world. We just don’t seem to learn from the past.
4/ Puff the Magic Dragon
Finally, their most iconic song which was intended as a simple sad song about letting go and life, which has since been misinterpreted as a song about doing drugs, is an original. It’s wonderful.
I could include so many more. They are wonderful. Thanks for popping in and indulging me today. May the Journey Never End!
I know the songs, but wouldn’t have been able to name the band, nor realized they were all from the same band 🙂
I’m familiar with some of the songs but listening to them in full now makes me appreciate them more.
Thanks for popping by!!
