Tuneful Tuesday – Eurovision Faves from the 80s & 90s!

Before Eurovision fades away into the distance for another year completely, I thought I would share a few more Eurovision faves of mine over the years. This time we time travel back to the previous century and check out some of the best tunes (IMO) that Eurovision gave us in the 1980s and 1990s!

1/ Guildo Hat Euch Lieb – Guidlo Horn, Germany 1998

Okay so, to be fair this really can’t count as one of the best. But Eurovision has its oddballs and this certainly was one of them. I believe roughly translated the name of the song is ‘Guildo Loves You All’.

3/ Why Me? – Linda Martin, Ireland, 1992

This is the winner of the 1992 contest. Ireland won three in a row and then a fourth in five years I believe, and this power ballad was written by a previous two-time winner of Eurovision in Johnny Logan. It’s a banger!

4. Framling – Carola, Sweden, 1983

I adore this song. Carola came third with it, and a few years later won the competition with what was, in my opinion, an inferior song to this. She even has to deal with a technical problem at the start when they forgot to turn her microphone on, but the teenager at the time belts it out! She also released a version in English – ‘Love Isn’t Love’.

5/ Hold Me Now – Johnny Logan, Ireland, 1987

Johnny is Eurovision ROYALTY and first won Eurovision in 1980 with ‘What’s Another Year’. Some will tell you this was his greatest song, but for me it’s 1987’s winner ‘Hold Me Now’. Note that Johnny was actually born in Frankston, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia!
